March 2008 - On the 31st March we went to Valletta
for a cultural walk in our beautiful capital city. We started this
walk from Fort St.Elmo and the War Museum. We walked up near the
Mediterranean Conference Center to the Memorial Bell and then to
the Lower Barracca. Here we had a clear view of the other forts
surrounding the Grand Harbour and the break water. We moved on to
pass from St.Paul's Street to Merchant's street were we visited
the refurbished old building of the Suq tal-Belt, then went to Republic
square known before as Piazza Regina and the Biblioteka (public
Library). Our next stop was the Armoury and the State Rooms at Presidential
Palace. It was interesting to see and understand what happened during
the Knights stay in Malta especially during the Great Siege and
then to the state rooms were we visited rooms used also nowadays
for Official Ceremonies by the Government. We could also see were
members of parliaments pass to enter the parliament which unfortunately
was closed. We then moved on to merchant street and passed in front
of Palazzo Parisio now the Malta Post Office, Auberge d'Italie now
the offices of the Ministry of Tourism and Auberge de Castille the
Prime Minister's Offices. We reached the Upper Barracca were after
enjoying the wonderful view of the Harbour from this angle we had
a small break.
We left these gardens and walked to the ruins of the Opera House
passing in front of the church dedicated to our village patron saint,Saint
Catherine of Alexandria. It was time to go back home so after a
treat of ice-cream for everybody we went for our coach.

Beavers - 22nd
March 2008 -On 22nd March the Beaver Colony went
to Ta'Qali. Here they visited two Glass Blowing Factories. The Pheniceon
Glass Blowers and the Valletta glass. The boys were shown the interesting
art of glass manufacturing from its origin. The boys had a great
time being shown how to blow up glass and also how many things can
be made from vases, paper weights and even artistic shapes of animals
and other objects. From origin the glass is transparent and so in
order to have various colours these have to be added in the form
of powder at the first stage when a ball of very hot glass is taken
from the oven to start the creation needed. After this educational
part the beavers hiked to the Ta' Qali National park for a picnic.
